One day while out in our garage organizing tools, putting away scrap lumber, and building small projects I came upon the idea of wanting a fairly large sign that used the word "workshop". I know I had seen something similar to what I was wanting in many auto service centers, wood shops and various magazines. My first thought was to look on the internet, you know, find something that will more than likely cost and arm and a leg, buy it, hang it and call it a day! After quickly realizing I was not finding what I wanted, nor did I want to pay high prices, I figured this is something I can design and build myself, cheap! So I did! I have a lot of Craftsman tools, and in order to keep in with the theme of my garage, I decided to use the Craftsman logo, add the word workshop, and frame it. Sounds pretty basic, but I used a pretty funky font for the word workshop. I then cut each letter out of wood using a bandsaw. Knowing this design still looked pretty basic, I wanted to step it up a notch. I then added a large circular saw blade I cut out of wood to mount behind the framed logo. The overall dimensions are approximately 5' x 3', and this is what I came up with...
I've got my sign now, but why the potential you ask?
I posted this pic of my wonderful sign to Wood magazine on facebook. A few hours later I received an email from the Tools Editor asking if I would be interested in potentially doing an article on small hometown workshops. After I calmed down from all the excitement, I quickly replied to his request stating that I will gladly accept this possible offer. In the meantime, I have been emailing back and forth with the managing editor in hopes to land this possibility. I'm told that a decision will not be made until summer time, until then I can't help but to have high hopes. Wish me luck!!!
I almost forgot to mention the cost of my new sign...you know the scrap wood I was organizing and putting away. Now it is hanging on my wall as you can see, and I may, I repeat may, have $10.00 total in it. Woohoo!
